Quick Reach Welcomes First Engineering Apprentice – Ben McCloy

ben and George

Here at Quick Reach we want to invest in Young Talent, which is why this year we teamed up with IPAF to provide apprenticeships for aspiring engineers.

We’re extremely pleased to announce that last month we welcomed our first Powered Access Engineering Apprentice, Ben McCloy, who joined our team in Wishaw on his 16th Birthday.

“Ben’s been coming to work with me since he was five,” his Dad, George, enthuses, “he has always been interested in stripping things down and repairing equipment.  As well as working with his Pop at the garage.”  Coming from a line of engineers, Ben will become the third generation in his family.  His Dad, George McCloy, has been working at Quick Reach as our Service Manager in Wishaw since May 2021 and will be supervising Ben throughout his 3-year apprenticeship.

From day one, Ben has proved his familial experience and hasn’t been afraid to get stuck into work.  “He can actually go and check a machine over; doing levels checks, wheel nuts, tyres, fuelling machines up as well as carrying out functions tests,” George explains.

As a family founded business, we are particularly excited to celebrate this father-son duo. I asked George and Ben, what it’s like officially working together. “We’ve always been a good team. From the day he started coming into work with me since he was five, he’s always been interested in engineering,” expresses George. “You can give him any machine and he’s already got a base knowledge of where to start checking the machine over. He’s already made a big difference with this depot; his help has enabled us to get on top off the machines we have readily available for hire.”

George’s pride for his son is wonderful to see, and we’re looking forward to seeing Ben’s development over the next few years.  The progress he has made in his first month is astounding and I’m sure he will continue to go from strength to strength.
